Marketing and promoting the product

Social media is a BIG part of our day to day life which makes it perfect for companies as big as Miss Selfridge to advertise their brand and clothing, just as it is for smaller businesses as well. Miss Selfridge uses instagram, Facebook and other social media to get out in the mainstream light and push their sales out.

Using promotions on items in store and having flash sales and especially joining in on the black friday event really pushes the sales and advertisement is also quickly passed round through e-mail, posters, social media, internet sites and even the shop windows. promotion is a very big thing.

Also using things like, hash tag missselfie gets the target market involved in the company and brand by posting pictures in the brands clothing to all their Instagram friends which then also advertises to millions more people every time and gets more people involved and aware of whats out there.

The Production chain from design to market product

For the current trend of 70's casual and smart the Influence was: Pucci, Matthew Williamson, Gucci, Saint Laurent and Tommy Hilfiger. Quoted by Miss Selfridge themselves;

 ' The decade of love seduced and catwalks of SS15. We crushed over Pucci's 70's splendour, tripped-out at Matthew Williamson's psychedelic parade, dropped jaws at Gucci's grown-up groupie approach and got hippy happy at Tommy Hilfiger; while spring platforms reached new heights at Saint Laurent - High drama, heaven.'

The Company, Workplace and Implementation

The Company that I have done my placement with is Miss Selfridge. Working in retail involved working on the shop floor a lot, taking stock checks, customer service, organising new deliveries to go out on the floor, making sure the shop was always on point with standards and looking immaculate. I also done some visual merchandising on the shop floor styling and dressing the mannequins with the latest trends. Aswell as dressing the shop window displays. Lucky enough I got to work closely with the manager of Miss Selfridge in Liverpool one and of Miss Selfridge in Debhenams in Liverpool. She showed me what she done as her role and taught me how to calculate the shops takings and how to filter down what trend was selling well and what impact it had on how the shop was laid out. The head visual merchandiser of the UK region made a visit to the store while I was working their and kindly let me take part in the meeting with the shops vm's. She showed me what she looked for and what her role included; mainly moving the shop floor around for the best way to draw the customers to the new trends and collections. She done this by looking at the head Miss Selfridge shop in London (Oxford Circus) sales by whats more popular and is selling well with the stores directed customer profile.

Miss Selfridge is a competitive high street store with many high street competitors such as; Topshop, River Island, Zara, Newlook, H&M. During my intern I done a shop walk with the manager and deputy manager where we would go round all the competitor stores and look at the quality, price and similarities in comparison to our store and brands garments. The collections that the shop sold when I was their were; 70's casual, 70's smart, clubbing, jersey and denim. The customer profile for Miss Selfridge is; 18-35 a casual look, plain and classy but also very feminine, as quoted by the brand itself 'Miss Selfridge empowers girls and women regardless of their age, take pride in who they are and to be as imaginative as possible in every aspect of their life.' It's not as urban as Topshop and River Island as it keeps the customer trends up to date with the brand.
